On the morning of October 15, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, presided over a symposium on literary and artistic work in Beijing and delivered an important speech. He emphasized that literature and art serve as the clarion call for the progress of the times, best embodying the spirit of an era and most effectively setting its cultural tone. Recently, employees of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group have earnestly studied the key points of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech. On October 18, the company’s trade union organized a collective singing session during which employees learned to perform two Dai folk songs, “Let Me Understand Your Language” and “On Joyful and Auspicious Days,” thereby vigorously preserving and promoting the cultural treasures of ethnic minority groups.

 

To enhance the singing standards and techniques of its employees, on the day of the event, the Trade Union of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. specially invited Ms. Dao Lifang, a renowned Dai soprano, to provide on-site vocal coaching. As a celebrated singer in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Ms. Dao Lifang has previously participated in the composition, performance, and recording of the company anthem “Love of the Rainforest—The Song of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical,” commemorating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., and has also personally instructed the company’s employees in vocal training and organized rehearsals for large choral performances. Under her guidance, on April 30, 2014, at the “May Day Workers’ Song” Workers’ Chorus Competition hosted by the Jinghong City Federation of Trade Unions, the performances of “We Workers Have Great Strength” and “A Springtime Story” by employees of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. Trade Union were awarded second prize.

 

It is reported that by learning to sing Dai folk songs and tracing their origins, employees have gained a deeper understanding of authentic Dai customs and traditions, thereby broadening their knowledge.
