On the afternoon of December 7, Liu Tianwei, a National Model Worker, a Moral Model, a member of the Standing Committee of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural People’s Congress, and Chairman of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, visited Jinghong Vocational Senior High School. At the “Flying Start for Our Motherland” lecture hosted by the Prefecture’s Caring-for-Younger-Generations Committee’s “Five Elders” Lecture Group, he delivered a speech titled “The Entrepreneurial Journey Starting with Two Yuan,” sharing his experiences with more than 300 teachers and students. Chairman Liu Tianwei Delivers a Heartfelt Address

In 1979, Chairman Liu Tianwei, riding the powerful momentum of China’s reform and opening-up, set out on a legendary journey to the beautiful, mysterious, and bountiful region of Xishuangbanna, carrying only two yuan in his pocket. He climbed aboard a large freight truck, braved mountains and rivers, and endured countless hardships along the way. During this period, he worked as a farmhand. Working as a porter at a hydropower station, a temporary rubber-tapping laborer on a farm, learning photography by going from village to village, running a small convenience store, raising bullfrogs, driving a large truck—these unusual experiences exposed him to the full spectrum of life’s joys and hardships. Yet it was precisely these trials and tribulations that forged his courage to take bold action. a fine quality of putting people first and striving for self-improvement. Through diligent effort and perseverance, he founded Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. in 1993. After 26 years of development, the company now boasts fixed assets exceeding RMB 2 billion and employs more than 1,000 staff. It has been awarded the “National Model Worker Vanguard,” “Top 100 Private Enterprises in Yunnan Province,” and “Yunnan Provincial Listed Protected Enterprise for the Non-Public Sector,” with a business scope that encompasses refined oil imports, gas stations, bottled liquefied petroleum gas, piped natural gas, real estate, and mining. Industry sectors such as manufacturing, forestry farms, Ruigong Lao Banzhang Tea Factory, and drinking water.
Chairman Liu Tianwei shared his entrepreneurial journey under the theme “The Two-Yuan Startup Path,” drawing on his own firsthand experiences to offer students invaluable insights for their own entrepreneurial endeavors and career pursuits. He emphasized that, in the course of entrepreneurship, one must: “The Three ‘Musts and Three ‘Nos’” means: one must have a heart for courageous acts of justice, a heart for helping others succeed, and a heart for charitable giving; one must not kick someone when they’re down, take advantage of others’ misfortune, or gloat over their suffering. At the same time, Liu Tianwei emphasized that a person should cultivate a grateful heart. We must dedicate ourselves to our motherland; we must be filial to our biological mothers; and we must protect Mother Earth.
While driving the company’s growth and expansion, Chairman Liu Tianwei has always remained true to his original aspiration and given back to society. Since its founding, the company has donated more than RMB 80 million in cash and in-kind contributions to various sectors of society. On July 7, 2016, Liu Tianwei and his wife, Zhang Yanhong, personally Willing to donate RMB 2 million, he established Xishuangbanna’s first non-public fundraising charitable organization—the Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation.
Following the lecture, Chairman Liu Tianwei engaged in a lively Q&A session with the students in attendance, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere filled with continuous applause.
