The 5.9-magnitude Mojiang earthquake has captured the attention of all sectors of society. As Mojiang County enters a critical phase of earthquake relief and poverty alleviation, on the morning of September 29, Liu Tianwei and Zhang Yanhong, chairpersons of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, together with their daughter Liu Nan, returned to their hometown in Tongguan Town, Mojiang County, to visit and offer condolences to the disaster-affected residents. Under the auspices of the County Party Committee and the County Government, they also held a ceremony to donate charitable funds for earthquake relief.

According to reports, on September 8, 2018, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Mojiang County in Pu’er City, with the epicenter located in Bingbang Village, Tongguan Town, Mojiang County, and a focal depth of 11 kilometers. This earthquake is the strongest in Yunnan Province in nearly four years. The most severe earthquake to date resulted in varying degrees of damage to 168 villages across 15 townships and towns in Mojiang County, affecting a total of 104,800 people and causing enormous losses to the lives and property of residents in the disaster-stricken areas.
As of 17:00 on September 26, the Mojiang 5.9-magnitude earthquake disaster relief effort had received a total of RMB 6.89178751 million in cash donations and RMB 1.9833734 million worth of donated materials, for a combined total of RMB 8.87516091 million. Among these contributions, Jinggu Dai Autonomous County donated RMB 1 million; Liu Tianwei and Zhang Yanhong, chairpersons of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., donated RMB 1 million; Ning’er Hani and Yi Autonomous County donated RMB 300,000; and Yang Wuhua personally donated RMB 50,000. The fundraising campaign is currently ongoing.
