Practical, effective and practical

June 2019 marked the 18th National Safety Production Month. Adhering to this year’s theme—“Preventing Risks, Eliminating Hazards, and Curbing Accidents”—Banna Petrochemical Group organized, on the morning of June 14, 2019, a simulated emergency fire-fighting drill at the Jinghong Farm basketball court, in collaboration with the Jinghong Farm Management Committee. The exercise was designed to strengthen the company’s daily safety management, enhance employees’ safety and fire-prevention awareness, and improve their ability to prevent accidents and perform self-rescue. The scenario simulated a liquefied petroleum gas cylinder angle valve leak leading to combustion and subsequent fire.

More than 80 people from the Group’s Safety and Storage Department, the Jinghong Branch, the New Energy Development Department, and the Party and government organs of the Jinghong Farm took part in this event. During the event, Lin Shenhe, a member of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection of Jinghong Farm, and Liu Rongjun, head of the Safety and Storage Department of the Group Company, both pointed out: “The use of fire has profoundly transformed the course of human civilization, and liquefied petroleum gas has brought significant improvements to our daily lives. However, fire and water are both merciless; only by cultivating a strong safety awareness, mastering essential safety knowledge, and gaining practical experience in emergency response can we ensure the safe use of liquefied petroleum gas.”

Liu Rong, head of the Safety and Storage Department, and Lei Guocheng, manager of the Jinghong Branch, provided on-site instruction on how to properly identify and use dry powder fire extinguishers, and demonstrated how to extinguish a gas cylinder fire using a wet towel. The Jinghong Branch also distributed informational materials at the scene, educating attendees on safe gas-use practices and procedures for handling liquefied petroleum gas leaks.

Through simulated emergency fire-extinguishing drills for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders and public awareness campaigns on LPG safety, company employees and workers at the Jinghong Farm have gained a more thorough understanding of fire safety principles, actively participated in on-site fire-extinguishing exercises, and learned to effectively utilize available firefighting equipment or household items—such as wet towels—to implement appropriate measures and techniques for controlling and extinguishing incipient fires, thereby safeguarding their personal safety and property. These efforts have enhanced their ability to respond decisively to LPG-related emergencies and to practice self-rescue in safety-critical situations.
