Liu Tianwei, Chairman of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, Celebrates International Children’s Day with Teachers and Students of Tianwei Primary School
On June 1, 2020, on the occasion of International Children’s Day, Mr. Liu Tianwei, a National Model Worker, a National Moral Model, a member of the Standing Committee of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural People’s Congress, and Chairman of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, together with Ms. Zhang Meilan, former member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Vice Chairwoman of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural People’s Congress, and Director of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural Caring-for-Youngsters Committee, as well as Mr. Dao Jinfen, former Vice Chairwoman of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural People’s Congress and Chairwoman of the Xishuangbanna Prefectural Federation of Trade Unions, visited Tianwei Primary School in Menghai County to celebrate Children’s Day with the teachers and students.
This year on International Children’s Day, Tianwei Primary School rigorously implemented the higher authorities’ overarching requirement of “no gatherings” for epidemic prevention and control by moving the themed celebration indoors and empowering the students to take charge of the event. Working in their respective classes, the children independently planned and organized a variety of celebratory activities, including singing, dancing, poetry recitation, riddle-solving contests, and interactive games. The program was both diverse and innovative, catering to the needs of all while fostering students’ individuality and self-directed development, and at the same time cultivating their spirit of unity and collaboration. In doing so, the school truly put into practice the educational principle of promoting well-rounded development in moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic domains.

Chairman Liu Tianwei and Director Zhang Meilan of the Prefecture Committee for Caring for the Next Generation, accompanied by their delegation, entered the classroom and engaged in lively interactions with the children, gaining a thorough understanding of their daily lives and studies. As Chairman Liu and his delegation stepped into the classroom, the children chorused in unison, “Hello, Grandpa and Grandma!” In response to the innocent, adorable faces before them, Chairman Liu and Director Zhang warmly smiled, nodded affectionately, and extended their heartfelt holiday greetings: “Hello, little friends! Wishing you all a happy Children’s Day!”
Zhang Meilan, Director of the Concern Committee for the Well-being of Minors of Xishuangbanna Prefecture, encouraged the children to study hard and, upon growing up, dedicate themselves to serving the motherland. We hope that teachers will conduct themselves with civility in their teaching and dedicate themselves to both imparting knowledge and nurturing students.

During his participation in the children’s activities, Chairman Liu Tianwei delivered a heartfelt message to the young participants: “When our youth are strong, our nation will be strong.” He expressed the hope that the children would set ambitious aspirations and clear goals from an early age, diligently acquire knowledge and develop their abilities, and in the future contribute their share to the building of our motherland. He also urged teachers to remain true to their original mission of teaching and nurturing, and to strive to cultivate well-rounded socialist builders and successors who excel in moral, intellectual, physical, and aesthetic development.
Liu Tianwei and Zhang Yanhong, founders of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group and the Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation, have donated school supplies to Tianwei Primary School, which they funded and built.
According to reports, as early as 2002, Liu Tianwei and Zhang Yanhong, the chairman and his wife of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, donated RMB 500,000 to the financially strapped Menghai County Education Bureau and established the “Tianwei Hope Primary School” under the Manwei Village Committee in Menghai Town, Menghai County. As the school has grown—in terms of both its scale (currently offering seven grades with 15 classes and enrolling more than 700 students, supported by a teaching staff of 36) and the need to improve its learning environment—Liu Tianwei and Zhang Yanhong have continued to make annual donations of funds and materials to Tianwei Primary School, thereby truly putting into practice their corporate philosophy: “Compassion and responsibility go hand in hand; development and charity walk together.”
