In order to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current status and challenges in the development and promotion of clean energy in rural areas of our prefecture, to explore effective approaches and methods for advancing such initiatives, and to accelerate the construction of a new socialist countryside in our prefecture, on August 28 the Xishuangbanna Prefectural Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, in collaboration with the Xishuangbanna Prefectural Bureau of Agriculture, conducted an extensive and in-depth field study at the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. This visit was undertaken in response to the spirit of the remarks made by Secretary Chen Yuhou of the Prefectural Party Committee during his inspection of the liquefied petroleum gas storage and distribution station of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, in which he emphasized that “promoting clean energy should be regarded as a key lever for building beautiful countryside.”

During the research meeting, Liu Tianwei, Chairman of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., provided a detailed briefing to the visiting research team on the company’s operations, including the safe transportation of liquefied petroleum gas, filling and inspection procedures, network deployment, market pricing, service quality, and overall business performance. He also put forward opinions and recommendations on how to promote clean-energy liquefied petroleum gas in rural markets. Following the briefing, the research team engaged in further exchanges and discussions with the leadership of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. on the matters covered in the report. Subsequently, the team conducted a focused field study in township and rural markets across Xishuangbanna Prefecture and at the liquefied petroleum gas sales outlets under Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd., examining the current energy structure in these areas.

Liquefied petroleum gas, as a clean energy source, is closely linked to the daily lives of the general public. According to reports, since its establishment 21 years ago, Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group has been committed to tropical rainforest conservation, upholding the ecological principle of “selling one more cylinder of gas means one less tree felled.” The company has vigorously promoted the use of liquefied petroleum gas—a highly efficient, convenient, and clean new fuel—as a substitute for firewood, thereby forging a path of environmentally friendly, resource-conserving, and sustainable development. This approach has yielded significant ecological and social benefits, earning widespread praise and acclaim from Party committees at all levels, government authorities, and various sectors of society. Currently, the company operates more than 200 LPG supply outlets throughout the prefecture, covering 33 townships, communities, and farms, serving over 500,000 households with regular gas supplies and preventing the destruction of more than 100,000 cubic meters of timber each year. Over the past two decades, the company has cumulatively sold over 31.69 million cylinders of LPG, equivalent to saving 26.87 million cubic meters of firewood and protecting 53,750 mu of tropical rainforest. Today, the company has become a vital force in Xishuangbanna’s efforts to build an eco-friendly prefecture and advance ecological civilization. The overarching goal of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group is to ensure that Xishuangbanna enjoys bluer skies, greener mountains, clearer waters, and a more beautiful environment.
