On the occasion of International Labor Day on May 1, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage and Distribution Station of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group was awarded the honorary title of “National Model Workers’ Vanguard” by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. This accolade follows the group’s trade union already being recognized by the ACFTU as a “Model Employees’ Home,” underscoring a new historic breakthrough in Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group’s trade union in steadfastly advancing grassroots union development, strengthening team cohesion, and enhancing employees’ ideological and political education.

The “Workers’ Vanguard” title is an honorary award established by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, with its activities centered on striving for first-class work, first-class service, first-class performance, and first-class teams. It aims to inspire the enthusiasm and creativity of the broad workforce and to strengthen their sense of mission and responsibility.

As early as the beginning of the 1990s, when the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group first established its liquefied petroleum gas storage and distribution station, it adopted a development vision: “to develop the gas industry, protect the tropical rainforest, transform the fuel structure, and bring benefits to the people of Xishuangbanna.” For 23 years, the company has remained steadfast in its commitment to tropical rainforest conservation and ecological balance, upholding the eco-friendly principle of “selling one more cylinder of gas means one fewer tree felled” and vigorously promoting the use of liquefied petroleum gas—a highly efficient, convenient, and time-saving alternative to firewood. Today, the station is responsible for the filling, delivery, and supply of liquefied petroleum gas to one city and two counties in Xishuangbanna Prefecture, covering 31 townships, 220 village committees, 2,141 natural villages, and serving a population of 1.1 million. Since its establishment, the station has cumulatively sold 21.47 million cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas, totaling 257,600 metric tons, thereby protecting 375,600 mu of tropical rainforest.

Currently, the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group’s LPG Storage and Distribution Station is earnestly implementing the “green development” concept put forward at the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, promoting the use of liquefied petroleum gas to replace firewood for tea processing and for household and industrial energy needs across rural areas of Xishuangbanna Prefecture. To date, the station has completed the construction of 15 pilot villages in one city and two counties within Xishuangbanna Prefecture, where LPG has replaced firewood for tea processing and for household and industrial energy use. Specifically, 12 drum-type withering machines have been installed, 5 drum-type withering machines have been retrofitted, 228 pot-mounted withering furnaces have been installed, and 586 domestic cooking stoves have been installed. In addition, a total of 378 sets of LPG cooking stoves, valued at RMB 264,600, have been donated to impoverished village committees in Dadugang Township and Jino Township of Jinghong City, as well as in Daluo Township of Menghai County.

The Liquefied Petroleum Gas Storage and Distribution Station of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group has promoted the use of liquefied petroleum gas as a substitute for firewood in tea production and in household and industrial energy needs across the vast rural areas of Xishuangbanna Prefecture, thereby replacing traditional firewood. This initiative not only helps improve rural sanitation but also protects forest resources and the ecological environment. It is of great significance for advancing “green development,” implementing poverty alleviation and development programs, and maintaining unity and stability among ethnic minority communities in border areas—truly a measure that benefits both the present generation and future generations. It once again underscores the Xishuangbanna Dai people’s adage: “Where there are forests, there is water; where there is water, there are fields; where there are fields, there is grain; and with grain comes a better life for us ordinary people. Preserving our green mountains and clear waters benefits our descendants—after all, green mountains and clear waters are the very foundation.” The active participation of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group’s LPG storage and distribution station also demonstrates the company’s strong support for the government’s poverty alleviation and ecological conservation efforts.
