Chairman Liu Tianwei’s legendary journey as a migrant worker began in the spring of 1979, when, riding the wave of China’s reform and opening-up, he boarded a large freight truck with just two yuan in his pocket and ventured into the beautiful, mysterious, and bountiful region of Xishuangbanna. Over the years, he endured countless hardships and trials—working as a porter at a farm hydroelectric station, a temporary rubber-tapping laborer on a plantation, learning photography by traveling from village to village, running a small convenience store, raising bullfrogs, and driving heavy trucks—before finally founding Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group Co., Ltd. in 1993. Through more than two decades of relentless effort and perseverance, the company has grown into a “Top 100 Private Enterprise in Yunnan Province” and a “Designated Protected Enterprise of the Non-Public Sector in Yunnan Province,” with fixed assets totaling RMB 2 billion and over 1,000 employees. Its business scope spans refined oil import, gas stations, bottled liquefied petroleum gas, piped natural gas, real estate, minerals, forestry operations, and the Wild Elephant Spring drinking-water brand, among other sectors. Moreover, the company has donated more than RMB 80 million in cash and goods to support various social causes, earning it a reputation as a truly compassionate enterprise.

Chairman Liu Tianwei delivered a vivid Party lesson on the glory of labor and unwavering conviction, drawing on his own firsthand entrepreneurial journey as an example for members of the China Association for Promoting Democracy. He comprehensively outlined the directions for future efforts—namely, dedicating oneself wholeheartedly to entrepreneurship, philanthropy, Party membership, and the role of Party committee chair—and demonstrated the sense of responsibility and concrete actions of an outstanding CAPD member who loves her or his post, performs duties conscientiously, and dedicates herself or himself to the country. The venue was packed, the atmosphere was enthusiastic, and attendees listened attentively, occasionally breaking into applause and expressions of approval. Many members felt that Chairman Liu’s presentation was down-to-earth, deeply resonant, inspiring, and highly practical, significantly enhancing their understanding of the core socialist values and the importance of studying and practicing them. It also sparked new ideas on how to better engage in political consultation and participation in state affairs as well as in Party work, offering invaluable guidance for fulfilling one’s responsibilities more effectively in the future.

This represents another significant innovative initiative undertaken by the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy in carrying out study and practice activities on upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics. Its aim is to promote in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches, to vigorously advance the practical application of cultivating and practicing socialist core values, to further strengthen the Party’s political awareness, overall awareness, core awareness, and alignment awareness, to further enhance confidence in the socialist path, socialist theory, and the socialist system, and to guide all Party members in striving to achieve a moderately prosperous society in all respects by rallying their spirits, uniting their efforts, and actively contributing their wisdom and strength.
