The Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation was established with a joint contribution of RMB 2 million from Mr. Liu Tianwei and Ms. Zhang Yanhong, chairpersons of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, making it the first non-public fundraising charity foundation in Xishuangbanna Prefecture. The “Golden Autumn Donation for Education” campaign launched this time is a key initiative through which the Tianwei Charity Foundation puts into practice its mission of “alleviating poverty and hardship, providing compassionate support, promoting education and nurturing talent, and caring for society,” with the aim of helping a number of academically outstanding but financially disadvantaged students to smoothly enter school, complete their studies, and realize their dreams.

According to reports, Liu Tianwei was originally a resident of the Longdongchong Villagers’ Group in the Xinwu Community of Tongguan Town, Mojiang Hani Autonomous County. In the spring of 1979, riding the wave of reform and opening-up and armed with just two yuan, he left his hometown for Xishuangbanna to seek work. After enduring numerous hardships and trials, he went on to establish the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group and grew it into a “Top 100 Private Enterprise in Yunnan Province” and a “Designated Protected Enterprise of the Non-Public Sector in Yunnan Province,” with fixed assets totaling RMB 2 billion and more than 1,000 employees. Never forgetting his roots or his fellow villagers, he returned home and has since donated over RMB 2 million in cumulative contributions, funding projects such as the Tianwei Tiered Classroom at Tongguan Primary School, the main gate of Tongguan Middle School, the Tongguan Tianwei Charity Road, the Tongguan Tianwei Cultural Activity Room, and the charity water cistern at the Mojiang Central Elderly Care Home. The series of benevolent acts by Liu Tianwei and his wife, Zhang Yanhong, truly embodies the new ethos of “compassion and responsibility go hand in hand, and corporate development and philanthropy advance together,” as well as the values of “upholding virtue and doing good, and standing in solidarity with one another,” thereby earnestly fulfilling the social responsibilities that entrepreneurs are expected to shoulder.
