At 3:30 p.m., compassionate individuals from all sectors of the prefecture gathered in the second-floor conference room of the Jinghong Municipal Public Security Bureau to participate in a fundraising event titled “Showing Compassion to the Family of Comrade Li Jingzhong, a Hero in Drug Enforcement.”
Ms. Zhang Yanhong, Secretary of the Party Branch of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, Legal Representative of the Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation, and Vice Chairperson of the Foundation, donated RMB 100,000 to the Jinghong Municipal Public Security Bureau on behalf of the Foundation.
Li Jingzhong was, at the time of his death, the deputy captain of the Anti-Drug Unit of the Jinghong Public Security Bureau in Xishuangbanna Prefecture. At around 12:00 on November 4, 2016, while cracking a major armed drug-trafficking case in Jingha Township, Jinghong City, he fearlessly charged into the fray as drug traffickers, driven by sheer madness and armed to the teeth, put up fierce resistance. In a life-or-death struggle, he was tragically shot in the neck and sustained critical injuries. Due to the severity of his wounds, resuscitation efforts proved futile, and at 13:20 that day, he succumbed to his injuries at the young age of 32.
According to reports, Li Jingzhong joined the public security sector in December 2007. Over the past six years, the drug cases he has helped investigate account for 90% of all drug cases handled by the Anti-Drug Unit of the Jinghong Municipal Public Security Bureau. He has been recognized as an “Outstanding Civil Servant” three times, awarded the “Third-Class Personal Merit Citation” three times, and received numerous other honors, including “National Advanced Individual in the Hundred-City Campaign Against Drugs” and “Expert in Solving Cases.”
Ms. Zhang Yanhong, Secretary of the Party Branch of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group and Legal Representative of the Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation, said in an interview: “It is with deep reverence for Comrade Li Jingzhong, the anti-drug hero, that we have come to participate in this fundraising campaign. We hope that through our charitable efforts, we can extend the reach of love, ensuring that this hero’s sacrifice is not in vain and that his family does not have to grieve twice over. We are committed to genuinely alleviating the worries of police officers and their families, and to demonstrating with concrete actions our pledge: ‘The blood of heroes has secured our peace; with our compassion, we will create a bright future for their families.’”
