Gazing at the clean and well-kept two-story Dai-style house, Yuxiang said excitedly, “We are deeply grateful to the Tianwei Charity Foundation for funding the construction of our new home. Mr. Liu Tianwei and Mrs. Zhang Yanhong are truly our family’s great benefactors. I will make sure my three children study hard and, once they enter the workforce, repay your kindness.”

According to information obtained by the reporter from the Dadugang Township Government, Yuxiang’s family is a key poverty-alleviation target under the registered poverty database and designated assistance program of the Jinghong Municipal Justice Bureau and the Dadugang Township People’s Government. Several years ago, Yuxiang suffered a cerebral infarction that left her with hemiplegia; she has been bedridden for many years and has essentially lost both her ability to work and her capacity for self-care. In addition, the family owns only a small plot of farmland and lacks able-bodied laborers, so their daily living expenses, her wife’s medical treatment costs, and the school fees for their three children—Yuxiang and her husband have three children in total: the eldest son is a senior in high school at the Xishuangbanna Prefecture Ethnic Middle School, the second son is in the eighth grade at Dadugang Township Junior High School, and the youngest daughter is in the sixth grade—all three excel academically and consistently rank among the top students in their classes—are mainly covered by the husband’s occasional odd jobs in nearby villages. The house they currently live in was built many years ago; on ordinary days it is tolerable, but whenever it rains, heavy rain pours outside while drizzle seeps into the house. Faced with this dire situation, Yuxiang is at a complete loss.

In July 2016, after learning about the situation of Yuxiang’s family, Liu Tianwei, Chairman of the Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation, personally visited their home to conduct an on-site inspection and immediately decided that the Tianwei Charity Foundation would fund the construction of a two-story Dai-style house for Yuxiang’s family.

On May 16, 2017, Liu Tianwei, Chairman of the Tianwei Charity Foundation, authorized Secretary-General Wang Jinzheng to conduct the acceptance inspection of the completed house. Construction by the building contractor commenced on March 1, 2017, and the architectural design follows the Dai-style brick-and-concrete structure. The first-floor ceiling is cast in concrete, while the second-floor ceiling is left uncast; both floors are finished with ceramic floor tiles, the walls are constructed as 24-cm-thick masonry, the floor-to-ceiling height on both levels is 3 meters, the roof features a steel truss structure covered with plastic-coated asphalt shingles, and the entire roof area is fully suspended from the ceiling. The total floor area is 119.3 square meters, with an investment of over RMB 140,000 from the foundation. In accordance with the contract, the construction contractor has completed all aspects of the project, agreed to the acceptance inspection, and handed the property over for use by the Yu Xiang family.

The Xishuangbanna Tianwei Charity Foundation was voluntarily established with a donation of RMB 2 million from Mr. Liu Tianwei and Ms. Zhang Yanhong, chairpersons of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group, making it the first non-public fundraising charitable organization in Xishuangbanna Prefecture. “Compassion and responsibility go hand in hand; corporate development and philanthropy advance together” was the original vision behind the establishment of the foundation by Mr. Liu and Ms. Zhang. Since its inception, the foundation has launched a series of initiatives in areas such as poverty alleviation, educational assistance, and caring support for vulnerable groups, thereby earnestly fulfilling the social responsibilities that entrepreneurs are expected to shoulder.
