What is a role model? A role model is a lamp that illuminates the path ahead and dispels the darkness of doubt and hesitation. A role model is a compass that points the way forward, ensuring that I no longer feel lost.

 

Yet the role model in my midst is an ordinary person—no spectacular feats to speak of, but years of dedicated hard work in an unassuming position; no towering, commanding presence, yet he has steered the company steadily toward soaring success.

 

In 2010, Piaohua, a young Aini man who had returned to civilian life after serving in the military, exchanged his green uniform for a blue one and single-handedly took up the post of deputy manager at the Mengla Branch of the Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group. Eight years of military service had forged in him an unshakable conviction: “There are no obstacles ahead.” His resolute face radiated a hint of excitement, and his piercing gaze betrayed unwavering determination. “The market is a battlefield—let’s get to work! If we don’t deliver results, I’m not going home,” he vowed to himself. True to his word, he set to work—and in fact, for nearly a year he did not return to his hometown, which is only 40 kilometers away.

 

He thoroughly assessed the company’s current situation, the market landscape, and industry benchmarks, then hopped on his motorcycle and crisscrossed the entire county seat of Mengla, pitching to one client after another and sealing contract after contract. Sales gradually climbed, but rather than basking in the success, he kept his eyes fixed on the next prospect—almost as if his “little wife” were a prized possession he feared someone else would snatch away. His military service had forged a robust physique, yet securing each client and obtaining every gas-use permit demanded relentless sweat and painstaking effort. When asked whether it was hard work, he simply responded with a shy, self-deprecating chuckle: “Hehe.”

 

Today, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas sales of the Mengla Branch of Xishuangbanna Petrochemical Group have increased many times over compared with the past—though he may not even fully grasp just how much. What matters to him is expanding into more markets and serving more customers. You’ll rarely find him in the office, because he’s always by his clients’ side and on the production floor.
